Description

Begun in 1976 by Bill Marshall, Henk Van der Kolk, and Dusty Cohl, the Toronto International Film Festival started out as a collection of films from other festivals. Over the years, it has grown in importance among world film festivals. This led film critic Roger Ebert to once state that, although smaller than Cannes, Toronto was the more useful and important festival. It is held annually, beginning on the Thursday night after Labor Day, and lasts for ten days. Throughout that time, around 300-400 films are screened at a number of locations in and around Toronto, with many of these having their world or North American premieres.
