A website is - or should be - a powerful marketing tool.
It can tell your prospective and existing customers everything they need to know about your products or services.
It has the potential to inform, persuade, convince, sell and even entertain.
It can help you win valuable friends - but only if it is written with the same skill and care as a compelling newspaper article, or an enticing advertisement.
If you intend to write your own content, here are a few pointers for you.
Decide upon your message before you start writing.
What are you offering?
What are its benefits?
Identify your audience.
Who's in the market for what you're offering?
Create a site plan, showing the pages and their priority.
Decide upon the 'tone of voice' to be used.
Formal or informal?
1st or 3rd Person?
Humorous - or serious - or a little of both?
Type the text correctly.
Create a word processing document with separate page(s) for each page of the site
Identify each page e.g. Index Page, or Contact Us page.
Type the page title e.g. Web Design Salisbury. Website Design and E-commerce Wiltshire, Dorset and UK
Type the meta title (and description) that are used by many search engines.
Type the headline. These are the (preferably few) words that will attract users to the page.
You are now ready to type the rest of the text - the messages upon which your business depends..
Keep it short and simple.
