Players

Although the game can be played with at least two people, it often works better with a larger number of players.

Ages

The traditional version of Pass the Parcel is aimed at younger children. However, there are variations aimed at older players.

Type of Party

Pass the Parcel could be played at any sort of party, but it's most often played at birthday parties.

Variations

One variation of Pass the Parcel follows the same traditional rules - the only difference is that when the music stops, the player holding the parcel can only remove one layer of wrapping paper. Whoever prepares the game may wish to put a small present such as a sweet under each layer of wrapping paper.

Preparation

A suitable present is found, and is wrapped up under many layers of wrapping paper. It's often easier for the players if each layer of wrapping paper has a different color or pattern. The number of layers of wrapping paper should be dictated by the number of players who will take part. Some music will be required for the game aswell.

Playing

The players sit down close to each other in a circle. When the music starts, the players pass the parcel around the circle. As soon as the music stops, the player holding the parcel removes as many layers of wrapping paper as they can. Once the music begins again, the parcel is passed around the circle until the music stops.

The parcel should be passed around the circle in the same direction. The player who removes the last layer of wrapping paper keeps the present.
