Overview

Paracetamol has been in use as an analgesic for home medication for over 30 years. It is widely used as an effective treatment for the relief of pain and fever in adults and children. Paracetamol is also known as acetaminophen.

Paracetamol can be used to relieve mild to moderate aches and pains associated with conditions such as headaches, migraine, toothache, teething, colds and flu. It is also useful for reducing fever and discomfort associated with colds and flu and following vaccinations.

Indications and Warnings

• Alcohol increases the risk of liver damage that can occur if an overdose of paracetamol is taken. The dangers of paracetamol overdose are greater in heavy drinkers and in people with alcoholic liver disease.
  
• If symptoms persist, stop taking the medication and consult your doctor.
  
• Do not take this medicine with any other paracetamol containing products.
  
• An overdose of paracetamol is dangerous and can cause serious damage to the liver and kidneys. You should never exceed the dose stated in the guidelines supplied with the medication. Immediate medical advice should be sought in the event of an overdose, even if you feel well, due to the risk of delayed, serious liver damage.
  
• Some products containing paracetamol are not recommended for use in children under certain ages. Consult the drug information leaflet supplied with the product for further information.
