A coddled egg is slow cooked and has a soft, cream - like white.
Prepare a pot of boiling water and have a cover available.
Place (room temperature) eggs in water, cover and remove from or turn off heat.
Leave eggs for 5 minutes in water.

It used to be said that if you take the egg from the water and the shell dries by the time you count 7 or 8, then the egg is coddled.
