Overview

Fish are poikilothermic animals, which means that not only are they considered cold-blooded, but their body temperature fluctuates with the temperature of the water around them. Aside from that, fish face many other implications from aquatic life. The density of water is 800 times that of air, so the forces acting on the fish's surface is much greater than that of humans and terrestrial animals. A streamlined and evolved body structure is crucial to survival of a species. Fish are more prone to illness also, as water acts as a universal solvent, in which gases from respiratory activities must diffuse. Microbial infection and multiplication are more common in these conditions.
