The New Zealand Listener has since 1939 provided readers with radio and later television listings and reviews. It remains the most comprehensive radio listings source of any New Zealand publication.

However, the Listener has now positioned itself as the only weekly current affairs magazine specifically for New Zealanders. It covers politics, arts, books, sports, drink, health and computers in a more traditional way than the modern sensational magazines.
