European politics is one of the most diverse and fascinating of all the political systems worldwide. Aswell as national governments, Europe has the EU system based in Brussels, Belgium which is the European Government and gives many guidelines as to how nations should stand politically. Members are referred to as MEP's or Members of the European Parliament.
As well as being close allies there are many tensions amongst European nations, most notably over immigration, as, any nation in the European Union, in accordance with a work permit, can legally reside in another EU country.
As expected with a continental government, there are many language barriers, such as the almost comical tantrums of current French President Jacques Chirac upon finding that all meetings will be conducted in English not his mother tongue of le franais, (French of course.)
The biggest event of the modern era and of the 3rd millenium is quite possibly the War in Iraq and the capture of the man who in many eyes is a tyrant, but to some, a hero - Saddam Hussein. The EU was almost split down the middle as to what to do, with the United Kingdom for invasion and capture and France against. Yet another Anglo - Franco disagreement.
These sorts of discussions, debates and differences of opinion makes European politics so wonderful, and this section is devoted entirely to them.
