Definition of Sex Laws and Politics

Different countries around the world have different laws which regulate the sexual behavior of its citizens.

In general, laws exist against acts considered sexual abuse or inappropriate behaviour and protect societal norms 'the status quo'. Some laws include the age of consent, marriage, sexual orientation, pornography, abortion, incest, bestiality, necrophilia, prostitution, endangering children, stalking, domestic violence, bigamy, obscene exposure and disorderly conduct.

"The topic of sexual politics cuts across issues in human rights, encompassing debates about gay rights, gender equality, cultural relativism, and U.S. foreign policy (e.g. abstinence-only education to combat the spread of HIV)."

It is considered a 'sex crime' to break a sexual law, and people who do so are referred to as 'sex offenders'.
