Transgender is a term used to refer to people in society who are born with the physical characteristics of one gender but who have the emotional characteristics and feelings of the opposite gender. Those who are born as males but feel like females are known as Transwoman and those who are born as females but feel like males are known as Transmen.
There are various types of transgender people in society. Cross-dressing, or the wearing of clothing or costumes of the opposite gender, is often considered to be transgender behaviour. Transvestites dress and act in the manner of the opposite gender. Drag kings and drag queens are similar to cross-dressers, although they usually wear exaggerated styles of the opposite gender and it is often for the purposes of performance. Androgynous people are emotionally uncertain of their exact gender, while transsexuals choose to live entirely as the opposite gender.
